Riga Church
Riga stree entrance - I didn't quite get what the local guide said about the two figures but there was something very signifant about the man on the right being black.

Plaza in Riga
Riga is very beautiful. It reminds me of Prague or Krakaw. We are staying in a lovely old hotel that is quite fancy (painted ceilings).
It was a little shocking to exchange our Lithuanian money here though. The Lithuanian money unit is equal to about 0.4 of a USA dollars and the Latvian is equal to 2 USA dollars. I gave the exchanger 100 and got back 20.
A fun thing we did was to go to the huge Riga market. My camera battery had gone dead so I have no pictures of this. Our guide, Mina, had a game for us. We were divided into 3 person teams and given an assignment of something to buy. Mike, Judy, and I got “maize”. We thought it might be corn but it turned out to be bread.

Today we were taken for a walking tour of the old town by a local guide. Everything is very well preserved, fresh, and clean. Apparently much of the old town is actually pretty new as it was much destroyed in the last two wars and so had to be restored. You’d never know it though – looks beautiful.

The market was fun – beautiful fresh veggies and fruit. There were buildings with meat, sea food, groceries, and just about anything you can think of. The products all seemed very good and the prices reasonable.
